Watson Lake

Arrived at Watson Lake - The Gateway to the Yukon Territory.  The RV campground was in the center of town - and I use that term loosely.  Just about 4 blocks long on the Alaskan Highway.  We walked one block to the Sign Post Forest from our campground.  Pictures we've seen show only a small section of the over 72,000 signs.  We walked the forest for at least a half hour, up and down the isles.
Entrance as seen from the Alaskan Highway

Rows of signs - this is only a small section

A town of about 1650 people has a department store

We went to a movie at the Northern Lights Center where some crazy guys went out in 120 degree below zero weather - filming the Aurora Borealis.  The theater was shaped like a dome and the skies projected on it.  Found out the  Aurora Borealis still occurs year round, but because it does not get dark, you cannot see it in the summer.   It also occurs simultaneously at the South Pole - exact mirror image of the Aurora Borealis at the North Pole.

Linda and I have decided we are tired of the 2 lane  blacktop and trees.  Days and days of driving without the scenery changing is a little tiring especially when you are trying to watch for wildlife running out in front of you.  It is hypnotic but the bumps in the road and the rattles of the coach keep you from nodding off.

So far,  we haven't seen anything more beautiful than the Rocky's of Colorado or the Red Rocks of Moab.  But we think this will be changing as we enter Alaska and get closer to Denali.
