Tok, Alaska

We are at the 1279 Mile Marker on the Alaskan Highway.  The Village of Tok (pronounced Coke with a T) boasts a population of 1400 people.   There is not a whole lot to this town, found some cottages with dirt and grass roofs (keeps it warmer in Winter and cooler in Summer).

Tok is known as the "Sled Dog Capital of Alaska"  and considered the best place to get a Husky or Malamute.

We stayed at the Sourdough Campground in Tok.   At Happy Hour we talked about how many mosquito bites we each had.  Our routine is:  As you walk out of the coach, grab can of mosquito repellant, spray liberally and hope you don't have a patch of skin exposed because it will be bitten.   Found out that a moose can lose up to a pint of blood a day from the little blood suckers.

Evening included a bowl of Reindeer Chili (sorry Rudolph!) in a Sourdough Bread Bowl.  So good.   There is always someone volunteering to take pictures of us eating.

Evening events included a bonfire and songs and a sourdough pancake toss

Get the pancake in the bucket Steve

The bucket is the little white thing in lower right corner - Gene tossing

Good form Linda, but none of us won the breakfast in the morning...  Sourdough pancakes and Reindeer sausage.
